Two nominations this year, and we couldn’t be more pleased. Shanklin Chine is up for Best Large Attraction, and Fisherman’s Cottage for Best Pub at the 2026 Red Funnel Isle of Wight Awards.
Shanklin Chine has been welcoming visitors since 1817, a natural gorge that drops from the Old Village down to the beach, through waterfalls and woodland paths walked by everyone from John Keats to generations of families on holiday. In the evenings, lit up by hundreds of lights, it’s something else entirely.
At the bottom, right on the shoreline, is Fisherman’s Cottage, a Grade II listed thatched pub with flagstone floors, a seafront patio, and fish and chips that have earned something of a reputation. Built by the same man who cut the original path through the Chine, it’s been here just as long.
If either place has ever been a part of your Island experience, we’d really appreciate your vote.
